Today, the terms "macro-trends" and "micro-trends" are widely used by trend analysts.
Let us begin by explaining the fundamental distinction between them. Macro trends represent long-term global trends that impact on various areas of society, such as interior design. On the other hand, micro-trends emerge from these macro-trends, characterised as smaller-scale trends that gain popularity over a short period of time. To illustrate this, consider a current macro-trend in interior design, such as the trend towards sustainability and ecology, which seeks to reduce environmental impact. In this context, a micro-trend could be the increasing adoption of hanging plants in public or private spaces, in line with the sustainability macro-trend.
DIFFERENCES BETWEEN MACRO-TREND AND MICRO-TREND
To keep up with trends, it is essential to understand how they work. Macro trends can encompass changes in styles, materials, colours, shapes, textures and even furnishings.
The duration of a macro-trend in interior design can vary depending on a variety of factors, such as the type of trend, market conditions and the evolution of culture and society in general.
In some cases, a macro-trend can last for several years or even decades, especially if it manages to establish itself as a style or trend in interior design. However, it is important to keep in mind that macro trends can evolve over time, adapting to cultural changes and consumer preferences. For example, a macro-trend from past decades, such as the Art Deco style, has evolved and has been reinterpreted in various ways, adapting to current tastes and decorative styles.
MACROTENDENCIAS EN EL MUNDO DE LOS AZULEJOS
It is important to note that the world of tiles is not governed by micro trends, since, as mentioned above, the latter are ephemeral and mainly affect decorative objects. Currently, tiles with geometric patterns are in full trend in the world of tiles. These geometric patterns can be applied in a variety of shades and combinations, resulting in unique and eye-catching designs. This trend is linked to macro trends, as it is based on nostalgia for the hydraulic tiles of around 50 years ago, fusing vintage elements with contemporary floor and wall tiles.
In addition, it is interesting to note the growing popularity of graphic marble designs on various lifestyle objects such as mobile phone and computer cases. To a large extent, this trend has been influenced by the fascination with marble, especially in white tones with grey veins, and has been reflected in the choice of imitation marble tiles.
Finally, tiles that mimic the texture of natural materials, such as wood, cement, marble and stone, are on the rise. These tiles are used to create warm and cosy atmospheres in interior spaces, and their popularity is also related to the macro trends influencing the choice of interior design materials.
