HOW TO TILE A BATHROOM CORRECTLY AND EASILY?
Tiling a bathroom is one of those tasks that most of us will have to do at some point, yet few people know the techniques to do it easily. Replacing bathroom tiles can be fun and simple if you know how to go about it, which is why today we want to share 7 tips and tricks for all types of bathroom renovations.
1. Plan and design the work
The first step is to plan and design the renovation in your bathroom. It’s helpful to measure the space and decide which walls you want to tile. With proper planning and measurements, the job becomes much easier and the results much better.
2. Prepare the surface
Once you’ve measured the bathroom and the walls to be tiled, the next step is to prepare the surface. If the wall is bare, just sand it until it’s as smooth as possible for easier tiling.
If the wall already has tiles, you’ll need to remove them completely, clean off any residue, and then apply a smoothing layer to even out the wall.
Before tiling, make sure the surface is clean and completely dry.
3. Choose quality tiles
At Ceramic Connection you’ll find all kinds of tiles, from small-format ones with a dynamic look to large-format tiles that give a more elegant and subtle feel. With a bit of browsing, you’ll easily find the perfect tiles for your space.
4. How to place the tiles
After choosing your tiles and preparing the wall, it's time to get to work. You’ll need special tools (check out some recommendations!) to spread the mortar and fix the tiles properly.
Always start from the bottom and work your way up—never from the middle. Calculate how many tiles you’ll need per wall before you start, so you avoid uneven lines and know how many cuts will be necessary.
5. Apply the mortar
Mortar is key in any tiling process. Mix it properly following the manufacturer’s instructions.
Spread the mortar on the wall using a notched trowel.
Then apply mortar to the back of each tile evenly, maintaining about 1 cm thickness.
Place the tile on the wall and use spacers to ensure even gaps between tiles.
6. Fill joints and apply silicone
Grouting is essential for a quality tile job.
Fill joints and wall corners with grout, covering the spaces evenly and thoroughly.
It’s also a good idea to apply special bathroom silicone to corners or expansion joints.
7. Finishing the tiles
Once the grout is dry, gently clean the tiles with circular motions using a sponge or mop with soap and water. Then wipe with a damp cloth to remove any leftover cement or grout residue.
